A Kuwaiti poet, Huda Ashkanani graduated from Kuwait University and worked as an Arabic language teacher in addition to her work in the journalism field as editor of cultural affairs in the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Tali’ah. Ashkanani won the 2012 Voices of the World Award for Poetry in the Italian city of Reggio and First Prize for Poetry at the Cultural Activities Competition at Kuwait University in 2006. She has published two poetry books, the critically-acclaimed A Sky Looking for Cover in Beirut in 2011 and You Were Blind. Some of her poems have been translated to English and French.

When his soul left his body and this world, he left a house for poetry, a place for his things, and walls where the poetry he loved would remain. The Bahraini poet Ibrahim Al Arrayed, and all those who (followed) him in his literary journey and translated works, were retained by the Sheikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research in his city which he belonged, Manama. For it was the house of fame, as the first among the homes of cultural centers outside the city of Muharraq.
